Closes #65

What ships

Import a playlist into Streamify by pasting its URL:

  • YouTube — youtube.com/playlist?list=, youtu.be/<video>?list=
  • YouTube Music — music.youtube.com/playlist?list=, including continuation paging so a 200-track VLPL is not truncated at page 1
  • SoundCloud — public sets (soundcloud.com/<user>/sets/<slug>) via the beatseek /playlist route that AlbumPlaylistScreen already reads
  • Subsonic/Navidrome — getPlaylist / getPlaylistList

Flow: resolve → preview (unplayable rows counted and shown) → import. The sheet is a flat modal matching the existing PlaylistCreateModal shape, opened from a new Library header button. Imported playlists are written through StorageService.addPlaylist, so normalizePlaylistSnapshot dedupe applies to every source. en + fa locales.

Design notes

All four adapters return the same {name, owner, thumbnail, tracks[]} shape and one shared step maps them onto the existing Track type — no per-source Track variant. YouTube and YouTube Music both page through youtubei browse (WEB_REMIX / WEB) using the same client family modules/innertube.ts already speaks to, rather than adding a second YouTube transport. Every fetch carries its own AbortController, per the innertube chain rule in the repo docs.

Imported entries keep their original source rather than being re-matched to JioSaavn/YouTube. That is the issue's stated preference, and it means an imported playlist plays the same URLs it had elsewhere; unmatched rows are counted in the preview instead of being silently dropped.

Verification

  • tests/playlist-import-regression.cjs — 25/25, exit 0. The suite is fully offline: the URL parser, the Innertube browse parser, and the SoundCloud payload parser are runtime-driven against three fixtures captured from real responses (two YouTube Music browse pages including the continuation page, and a 432-track SoundCloud set) committed under tests/fixtures/. Storage/UI/Subsonic wiring is contract-checked from file contents.
  • Sabotage run: 7 mutations (dropped clock-duration parse, addPlaylist call renamed, YTM source downgraded to youtube, skipped-counter removed, sheet unmounted, getPlaylist id hardcoded, Persian copy replaced with English) — each failed exactly its intended check; restored from a single backup set and re-verified green.
  • npx tsc --noEmit clean.
  • tests/local-playback-regression.cjs still 6 pass / 2 fail — identical on the stashed base, pre-existing, untouched here.

Not device-verified. The browse round trip was exercised from this host against the live endpoints, but the sheet, the header button, and the on-device round trip were never run on a phone or emulator. Not Subsonic-verified either — no server was available, so that path is contract-checked only. What I would want a real pass to confirm: pasting a YT Music URL of 200+ tracks imports all of them, and a SoundCloud set plays end to end.

Not included

  • Local .m3u/.m3u8 import (needs a file picker plus a media-index build step) — refused with an explicit error rather than half-imported
  • Deezer / iTunes playlist URLs, ListenBrainz / Last.fm (phase 3 in the issue, no existing resolver in the repo)
  • YouTube channel URL import (only playlist ids resolve; a channel link is refused)
  • RD-mix browse ids — both music.youtube.com and www.youtube.com return HTTP 400 for RD..., so mixes are not importable through this path
  • Re-sync/diff of an already-imported playlist (v1 import only; the origin id is namespaced into the stored playlist id so a follow-up can find it)
  • Track-matching fallback chain (JioSaavn → YouTube search) for unmatched titles

Assessment against linked issues

Issue Objective Addressed Explanation
#65 Implement playlist import from YouTube, YouTube Music, SoundCloud, and configured Subsonic/Navidrome sources, including URL resolution, preview, track handling, and persistence as a normal local Streamify playlist. ✅
#65 Ensure imported playlists meet the issue's matching and usability requirements, including shared track matching with the existing fallback chain, reporting unmatched tracks, and preserving normal playback, queue, shuffle, smart queue, and scrobbling behavior. ❌ The PR explicitly omits the required JioSaavn → YouTube track-matching fallback chain and instead keeps origin URLs directly. It does report rows that have no playable origin ID, but it does not match otherwise unresolved imported titles against Streamify sources as specified.
#65 Support the remaining playlist import scope and lifecycle requirements, including local .m3u/.m3u8 files and storing sufficient origin information for re-sync/diff updates. ❌ The PR explicitly refuses .m3u/.m3u8 imports and does not implement re-sync/diff. It only stores the original URL in the playlist description and namespaces the playlist ID, which does not provide the requested update-in-place synchronization behavior.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The change adds playlist import from YouTube, YouTube Music, SoundCloud, and configured Subsonic services. It parses links, retrieves and maps tracks, saves playlists locally, and adds a localized import sheet to the library.

Changes

Playlist import

Layer / File(s) Summary
Link parsing and provider data normalization
modules/playlistImport.ts, tests/fixtures/*playlist*.json, tests/playlist-import-regression.cjs
The importer classifies playlist URLs and parses YouTube and SoundCloud responses into shared playlist and track data. Regression checks cover URL classification and parsing using provider fixtures.
Provider retrieval and dispatch
modules/playlistImport.ts, modules/subsonicService.ts, tests/playlist-import-regression.cjs
The importer fetches paginated YouTube playlists and retrieves SoundCloud playlists through the configured Beatseek API. It dispatches Subsonic links through subsonicService, which adds playlist listing and retrieval methods.
Track mapping and local playlist storage
modules/playlistImport.ts, tests/playlist-import-regression.cjs
The importer maps provider tracks to player tracks and saves imported playlists through StorageService. Regression checks cover track mapping and persistence.
Library import interface
components/PlaylistImportSheet.tsx, components/screens/LibraryScreen.tsx, locales/en.json, locales/fa.json, tests/playlist-import-regression.cjs
The library adds an import button and sheet. The sheet resolves links, displays a playlist preview, and saves eligible results. English and Persian strings support the interface, and regression checks cover integration and locale keys.

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 4588c

Import can save a playlist other than the one indicated by the pasted link, and an older request can replace a newer preview. Resolve those behaviors before merging. The narrow-screen layout and Persian error text also need attention; a reported secret-scan failure remains unconfirmed.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 4588c

Playlist import can use a pasted link to access the user's configured music server, and the new save path may retain credential-bearing playback URLs in ordinary playlist storage. The preview and confirmation can also become disconnected. Exposure appears limited to the user's configured server and local library; storage redaction and runtime behavior have not been fully verified.

Retained concerns

  • Medium · security · observed: A pasted Subsonic link supplies a playlist ID but does not bind that ID to the link's server. Resolution instead reads the same ID using the user's configured server credentials, so a foreign-origin link can preview and save a different playlist when IDs coincide.
  • Medium · security · inferred: Import passes password-derived, credential-bearing Subsonic stream URLs into the general playlist persistence path. Whether track normalization removes them before AsyncStorage serialization remains unverified; if retained, import extends their lifetime beyond playback and the dedicated credential store.
  • Medium · security · inferred: Confirmation is not bound to the current link or a particular resolution request. Editing a previewed link leaves the previous result importable; an older request can also update state after close or a newer request. This weakens the user's confirmation of which external content enters the local library.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The identifiable authority is the current user's configured Subsonic account, with outcomes in that user's local playlist library. The inspected path does not show authority to query an arbitrary pasted server or a cross-user service.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • inferred — A supplied Subsonic-style link with an ID matching a playlist on the configured server can cause that server's playlist to be retrieved and offered for import, even when the supplied link names another host. Preview and a nonempty-track requirement limit silent completion but do not establish origin identity.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — YouTube browsing has a per-request deadline and a 20-page cap; SoundCloud retrieval also has a deadline. These bound individual retrievals but do not cancel a resolution when the sheet closes or its input changes.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • inferred — Resetting the modal clears state without invalidating its pending request. Completion can therefore restore an old result after reset, while the save path offers no rollback if later storage work fails.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Bind Subsonic link identity to the configured server, and generate authenticated stream URLs when needed rather than persisting reusable authentication parameters with playlist tracks.
  • proposed — Invalidate a preview when its link changes, reject completions from superseded resolutions, and make save acknowledgement reflect the committed playlist state.

Explanation

The PR implements the main #65 import flow for YouTube, YouTube Music, public SoundCloud sets, and configured Subsonic servers. It adds preview data, continuation paging, skipped-entry reporting, source-preserving track mapping, StorageService.addPlaylist persistence, localization, and regression checks. The follow-up fixes YouTube browse parameter placement, selects the largest thumbnail, and preserves single-object Subsonic responses. The PR still does not implement the #65 shared track-matching fallback. It also does not define structured import-source and original-ID metadata or re-sync behavior. The playlist description and namespaced local ID do not establish that data model or update flow.

Resolution

Implement the #65 shared track-matching fallback with serialized, rate-limited searches. Add tests for matched and unmatched tracks, and ensure every unmatched track is reported. Persist the import source and original playlist ID in a defined playlist model. Add re-sync behavior that updates the existing imported playlist, with persistence and update tests.

LlamaPReview — Blocking issues found

YouTube / YT Music browse target is nested inside context, so the headline import path may yield zero items.

Exact-head CI remains unresolved (1 failed, 1 pending); no CI-dependent merge-safety claim is made.

Owner action: Hoist browseId/continuation to the body root (JSON.stringify({ context: { client: {…} },...body })) and run one live browse + one continuation call before merge.

Material unknowns

  • Whether youtubei/v1/browse honors browseId/continuation nested inside context rather than at the body root. If the server ignores the nested keys, both YouTube branches return zero items and the headline paste-a-link import delivers nothing; if honored, Finding 1 collapses to a nonblocking clarity note.
    • Check: Make one live youtubei/v1/browse call with this exact body, or read the request shape in modules/innertube.ts.
  • Whether a pasted link end-to-end (preview → import → play) works on a device, including source: "youtubemusic" tracks and SoundCloud permalink ids. Unestablished player resolution for stored YTM URLs and permalink-id SoundCloud rows; a failure would make imported playlists unplayable despite a correct preview.
    • Check: Run the paste → preview → import → play round trip on a device/emulator.
  • Whether the Subsonic adapter works against a real Subsonic/Navidrome server. API/helper shapes are read-verified only; a server mismatch would break one of the four shipped sources.
    • Check: Exercise getPlaylist/getPlaylistList against a real configured server.
  • Whether the app’s t() interpolation renders ICU plural syntax used by library.importPlaylistSkipped. The skipped counter may render the raw ICU string instead of a translated count.
    • Check: Confirm the interpolation contract, or switch to a plain count string.

P1 | Confidence: Medium

Changed mechanism (verbatim post-change):

 body: JSON.stringify({
 context: {
 client: {
 clientName: client.name,
 clientVersion: client.version,
 hl: "en",
 gl: "US",
 },...body,
 },
 }),

with the caller supplying

 const payload = await postYoutubeBrowse(
 client,
 continuation? { continuation }: { browseId },
 );

So the wire body is {"context":{"client":{…},"browseId":"VL…"}}. InnerTube’s browse contract reads browseId and continuation as siblings of context at the top level of the body (the same shape the repo’s innertube client family uses). Reachable path: resolvePlaylistImport → parsed.kind === "youtube" | "youtubemusic" (2 of the 4 shipped sources, and criteria 1–3) → fetchYoutubePlaylist → postYoutubeBrowse. Consequence if the server ignores/rejects the nested keys: either the call throws HTTP 4xx and the sheet shows a raw error string, or the response carries no musicResponsiveListItemRenderer items, so the preview shows 0 songs, canImport = Boolean(result?.tracks.length) stays false, and Import is disabled — the feature’s headline path delivers nothing. SoundCloud (single GET) and Subsonic (getPlaylist) do not use this function.

Strongest counterevidence: the author reports a live round trip from their host and fixtures “captured from real responses”; the offline suite only feeds captured payloads into the parsers, never calling postYoutubeBrowse, so its 25/25 cannot confirm the request shape. modules/innertube.ts exists at head, but only its path state is in evidence — its request body was not read, so no repository-local comparison settles it either. If a live call shows the nested fields are honored, this collapses to a nonblocking clarity note (the fetch half is still unverified).

Evidence: changed region in modules/playlistImport.ts; changed region in tests/playlist-import-regression.cjs.

Invalidate pending resolutions when the sheet closes or starts another request.

Closing the modal resets its state, but a pending resolvePlaylistImport can later set result. If the user reopens the sheet and starts another resolution, the older request can also overwrite the newer preview or clear its busy state. Use a request generation or cancellation guard before applying completion state.

Localize resolution errors before displaying them.

For an unsupported link, resolvePlaylistImport throws an English message such as Unsupported playlist link (unknown-host). The Persian sheet displays that message instead of library.importPlaylistFailed. Map resolver failures to localized messages before setting status.

Clear the preview when the link changes.

After a user previews one playlist and edits the link, result still contains the first playlist. The Import button then saves the first playlist while the input shows the new link. Clear result in the link-change handler.

Keep the header actions usable on narrow screens.

At 320 points, the signed-in header cannot fit HeaderTitle and six actions in one row. No child has a compact or wrapping layout. The title keeps its intrinsic width, so the action row extends beyond the viewport and its rightmost action can become unreachable. Validate the YouTube hostname with exact match or dot-suffix.

host.endsWith("youtube.com") accepts hosts like evilyoutube.com and notyoutube.com. These hosts get classified as YouTube playlists. The import then fetches from the fixed YouTube origin, so no SSRF occurs. However, the parser accepts links it should reject. music.youtube is also not a real hostname.

Proposed fix
-  const isMusic = host === "music.youtube.com" || host === "music.youtube";
+  const isMusic = host === "music.youtube.com";
   const isYouTube =
     isMusic ||
     host === "youtube.com" ||
     host === "youtu.be" ||
-    host === "m.youtube.com" ||
-    host.endsWith("youtube.com");
+    host.endsWith(".youtube.com");

Based on learnings: validate hostnames with hostname === 'domain' || hostname.endsWith('.domain'), not with substring or bare suffix checks.

Reject Subsonic links from a different server.

parsePlaylistUrl accepts any host whose path contains /rest/ or subsonic, but the resolver passes only the playlist ID to the configured Subsonic server. A foreign link can therefore import and save the configured server's playlist with the same ID.

Compare the parsed link origin with new URL(config.baseUrl).origin. saveConfig removes trailing slashes, but loadConfig does not normalize stored values. Comparing origins avoids differences in trailing slashes and configured server paths.

Suggested fix
   if (parsed.kind === "subsonic") {
+    const config = await subsonicService.loadConfig();
+    if (!config) {
+      throw new Error("Subsonic server is not configured");

+      throw new Error("Subsonic link belongs to a different server");
+    }
     return fetchSubsonicPlaylist(parsed.playlistId);
   }

An unconfigured or failed request can produce an empty result, but PlaylistImportSheet disables saving when result.tracks is empty. It does not save an empty playlist.

🌐 Web query:

YouTube Innertube browse continuation token repeated empty continuationItems response behavior

💡 Result:

If `/youtubei/v1/browse` returns a continuation response with an empty or missing `continuationItems`, treat it as **no usable next page** and stop; don’t resend the same token in a loop. Empty results alone don’t prove the feed is exhausted, but if there’s no new continuation token to follow, pagination can’t safely progress.

Also keep a `seen_tokens` set: YouTube can return a repeated token, and yt-dlp explicitly detects that loop and stops. Its tab extractor handles several response shapes (`continuationContents`, actions, and endpoints), then extracts a fresh continuation; if none is available, it ends pagination. [1]

In short: **append any items; extract the next token; stop if it’s absent, empty, or already seen.** An empty page with a *new* token may still be followed, but cap retries/pages defensively. [1]

Stop when a YouTube continuation token repeats.

If a browse response returns a continuation token that was already seen, this loop can request the same page again and append duplicate tracks until MAX_PAGES. Track returned tokens and stop before processing a page whose token repeats. Do not stop only because page.items is empty. The parser can discard invalid rows while a new continuation still leads to valid tracks.

Allowlist the fixture as a GitGuardian false positive.

GitGuardian currently fails on this high-entropy value, but that finding does not establish a credential leak. The value is a captured Innertube continuation cursor from a public browse response.

Do not replace it with an arbitrary length-only placeholder. fetchYoutubePlaylist sends the parsed token in the next { continuation } browse request, so a placeholder can break playlist paging. Mark this exact occurrence as a false positive or add a narrow allowlist for this fixture. The visible test checks only token length and would not detect that breakage.

Playback URLs are preserved so imported tracks play from their source.

tests/playlist-import-regression.cjs covers link parsing, Innertube

the storage contract, and locale parity. Captured response fixtures are
sanitized: continuation tokens and click-tracking params are fixed

Add a fetcher-level pagination regression test.

…gle-object Subsonic wrap

- postYoutubeBrowse: browseId/continuation are siblings of context, not members; nested they were ignored and every call returned the home feed
- thumbnailUrlOf: last (largest) variant instead of thumbnails[0]
- subsonicService: wrap single objects in both getPlaylistList and getPlaylist entries
- regression: 25 -> 28 checks, sabotage-verified
