estack-drive-cli-agent: document background execution for Codex desktop hosts without run_in_background #63

Description

@ElliotDrel

Observed October 3, 2026.

The skill's generic long-task guidance assumes a Bash tool with run_in_background and automatic completion notification. This Codex desktop host provides exec_command session IDs and write_stdin polling instead. We kept claude -p processes running using that host mechanism, saved JSON/stderr and polled for completion.

Current official Claude docs also distinguish native --bg from print mode; they cannot be combined. Do not replace claude -p with an invalid --bg -p invocation. This combination was not attempted in the session.

Requested change: provide host-specific foreground/background recipes, bounded progress checks and result-file verification. Document notification guarantees only for harnesses that actually provide them; avoid promising automatic callback in other hosts.

Source fetched this session: https://code.claude.com/docs/en/cli-reference

Acceptance: a Codex desktop agent can run long Claude tasks correctly without unavailable Bash harness arguments or unsupported notification promises.
