Explore an accelerating-elevator thought experiment and frequency-shift illustrations through two educational scripts and accompanying lecture notes.
Open the cloned repository root in MATLAB and review the parameters of the selected example. The elevator visualization uses a scaled speed of light for display; interpret its geometry within the assumptions given in the script and notes.
edit rindlerspace_elevator_experiment.mThe examples are intended for conceptual exploration and teaching. The detailed notes below explain their calculations and plots.
The script uses the illustrative speed c=3 and the Newtonian displacement relations
delta_t = d/c
delta_h = 0.5*g*delta_t^2
tan(alpha) = delta_h/d = g*delta_t/(2*c)
It draws a straight segment joining the two endpoints and animates positions along that segment. The angle is the endpoint chord angle; neither a curved ray nor a Rindler-coordinate null geodesic is numerically integrated. Reducing the displayed speed of light magnifies the effect for teaching and does not preserve a physical relativistic experiment.
The 100 animation frames remain in the workspace variable F. The commented movie(F,1) line can play them; this script does not write a video file by default.
The script prescribes 100 photon positions and a blue-to-red color interpolation, then writes photon_movement.mp4 in the current folder. It defines g, c and delta_t, but does not use them to calculate a photon frequency, a Doppler factor or a gravitational-redshift spectrum. The color change is an illustration, not a quantitative frequency prediction. The video duration is determined by frame count and VideoWriter, not the computed light-crossing time.
Run the scripts separately after inspecting their parameters. Video output requires a supported MPEG-4 encoder. Use the lecture notes for the underlying relativity discussion, keeping these simplified graphics separate from exact coordinate calculations.
