Tooltips/tutorials #52

People have a hard time understanding the point for the first time. People are conditioned to immediately close any popup that they did not click. This leaves me with people using the site without understanding it first.

Namely, I noticed that there are too many options that people misuse right now. For example:

  • Student selects correct term and adds a correct subject/course
  • Then, they pin all the courses as if they are "enabled"
  • They often also click on the course that they added and immediately start "pinning" subjects by adding them to the list.
  • They also breeze over the min/max courses per schedule despite how required it is

This leaves students with no generations due to misuse. We likely want or need to:

  1. Hide options under "advanced menus" such as pinning or adding specific sections.
  2. More tooltips. Students seem to pay attention to tooltips.
  3. Other...?

There may be no good solution here. Student's almost always need context before just "jumping into" the site, which always helps with intuitive understanding. So, this might just be a "context is required to use this tool" sort of problem. Though we can probably do at least something to help with the flailing around and clicking buttons that break their generation.
