fix(cloud oauth): retry a transient refresh failure inside the refresh lock - #959

Conversation
A refresh POST that times out, resets, or gets a 5xx may land after the server already rotated the refresh token. Keeping the stale session left the consumed token on disk for the next command (or the reactive 401 path) to replay, usually outside the server's reuse-grace window, which revokes the whole token family and logs the user out. Re-send the same refresh token while still holding the refresh lock: up to 3 retries with 2s/4s/8s backoff, the retry phase capped at 40s wall clock (each retry POST's timeout clamped to the remaining budget). Only status 0, 408, 429 and 5xx are retried; invalid_grant/invalid_token/reuse are never retried. Raise the refresh lock timeout from 45s to 90s so a waiter's budget covers a holder's 30s POST plus the 40s retry phase. Also map a bare OSError from the OAuth HTTP helper (a read timeout after the request was sent, which urllib does not wrap in URLError) to a status-0 failure so the retry sees the exact "response lost" case.

📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughOAuth refresh requests now support caller-supplied timeouts. Locked refreshes retry eligible transient failures with bounded delays and preserve or clear the existing session according to the error. ChangesOAuth refresh handling

Suggested reviewers: Priority: ⬇️ Low Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to In a rare misconfiguration where a stored session uses a plaintext non-loopback URL, a refresh would wait about 14 seconds and block other credential reads during that time. This is bounded and easy to fix, so it is mergeable with the follow-up noted. 🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 2✅ Passed checks (2 passed)

…ncated responses - Plaintext-URL refusal and TLS certificate-verification failures are now marked non-retryable, so they no longer sleep through the backoff while holding the refresh lock. - http.client.HTTPException (IncompleteRead, BadStatusLine) maps to a status-0 failure like OSError, so a truncated token response reaches the in-lock retry instead of escaping unconverted. - A failed read of an HTTPError body keeps the HTTP status. - A sleep that overruns the retry budget stops the retry rather than starting a POST with a non-positive timeout. - 429 is no longer retried: the server asked us to back off and did not rotate the token. - Correct the budget comment: urllib's timeout is per socket operation. LGTM. Retry is bounded and stops on fatal/TLS/429. The ~70s lock hold during a token-endpoint outage is an acceptable latency trade-off; fine to bound store-read waits in a follow-up.
ELI-5
When the CLI renews your cloud login, the server hands back a new refresh token and immediately retires the old one. Sometimes that reply gets lost: the request times out, the connection resets, or the server returns a 5xx. The CLI used to shrug and keep the old token. The next command then sent that already-retired token again, usually after the server's short grace window had closed. The server treats that as token theft, kills the whole login family, and you have to log in again. Now the CLI re-sends the same token a few times right away, while it still holds the refresh lock. The server's grace window answers that replay with a fresh token.
What changed
All in
comfy_cli/cloud/oauth.py:_is_transient_refresh_erroris new. A refresh failure counts as transient if it is status0(no HTTP response),408or>= 500. Anything_is_fatal_token_errorcatches (invalid_grant/invalid_token/ reuse) is never transient, whatever its status. Other 4xx responses (invalid_client,invalid_request, ...) are also not retried. Neither is429: the server asked us to back off and did not rotate the token. Local, deterministic refusals are also not retried: a plaintext non-loopback URL, or a TLS certificate-verification failure._HTTPFailmarks theseretryable=False, and that flag is carried intoOAuthRefreshError.details._refresh_with_retrywrapsrefresh_tokensinside_locked_refresh. On a transient failure it re-POSTs the same refresh token up to 3 more times, sleeping 2s, 4s and 8s between attempts._REFRESH_LOCK_TIMEOUT_Sgoes from 45s to 90s. That covers one holder's 30s POST plus the 40s retry phase. TheTimeoutErrorfallback, which returns the pre-lock session, is unchanged._send_and_parsenow maps a bareOSErroror anhttp.client.HTTPException(IncompleteRead,BadStatusLine) to a status-0 failure. urllib wraps connect-phase errors inURLError, but a read timeout or reset after the request was sent comes out ofgetresponse()as a bareTimeoutError. A body cut short raisesIncompleteRead, which is not anOSError. Both are the "server rotated, response lost" case. If reading anHTTPError's body fails, the HTTP status is now kept with an empty body. Before this change it skippedOAuthRefreshErrorentirely and fell into the genericexcept Exception: return sessionbranch, so the retry would never have seen it. As a side effect, the register and code-exchange paths now report a read timeout as their normalOAuth*Errorinstead of letting a rawTimeoutErrorescape.refresh_tokens/_post_form/_send_and_parsetake an optionaltimeout. It defaults to the existing 30s_HTTP_TIMEOUT_S, so other callers behave the same.Unchanged:
_redact_token_response: no token values are logged or put in error messages._try_refresh_token→ensure_fresh_session(force=True)) inherits the retry without changes.Judgment calls
auth/store.pyuses for every secret-store read. While a holder is in its retry phase, a peer's plainget_cloud_session()(which has no timeout) now waits up to about 70s in the worst case, instead of about 30s. Blocking peers until the token is settled is intended: it's what stops a peer from replaying the consumed token. But it is a longer worst-case stall.ensure_fresh_session's firstget_cloud_session()takes the store lock with no timeout, so a new command waits out a holder's retry phase there rather than hitting the 90s fallback. Bounding the store's reads changes every secret-store read, so it is proposed as a separate follow-up.Tests
