New phone, can't use APDE now

Just got a new android (version 14) and when I went to use APDE it will not install the sketch previewer. It also won't compile or run my old program, with the following console message:

Initializing build sequence…
Target: debug
Deleted old build folder
/data/user/0/com.calsignlabs.apde/files/tmp/aapt[1]: syntax error: unexpected '���4�=��4'
Failed to build sketch previewer

Also it's worth noting my old phone also uses android 14. I switched from a Samsung to a Google pixel - if that is relevant to the problem somehow

Looking at the post on their GitHub, it seems as though the offer isn't developing this any more.
