I'm not going to press on it because I don't need it now - but I know it answers a common question - e.g., having the ability to search helps you find old versions by information other than their id. e.g., based on the way I currently generate some metadata in my repo I could search and find the version that a specific set of upstream data and code made... questions routinely come up about - what version did you use to do x... having this ability takes a lot of burden off the user to remember that, be sure they committed at the right pin moment, etc., for zero cost.
