1. The time column should be set to accept only HH:MM format using data validation tools in Excel
2. Similarly, data validation tools could be used to ensure proper formatting of dates and precipitation values, although there were no problems detected with these columns.
3. Date column should be pre-filled and locked. Several duplicated dates were detected.
4. The day of year need not be entered. It was often wrong, and it's simple to calculate from the date
5. A "flag" column to indicate accumulated values, data or instrument errors, and possibly trace precipitation.
6. Monthly and yearly aggregated data need not be calculated manually.
7. Ensure that "no observation" is entered as a blank or NA in the precip column and that observations of no precipitation are entered as 0.
