Use sqlite3 for wider platform support?

This would be actually a feature/enhancement request, but I am not sure about what the authors think about it, so I will go with a question.

Has it been though to use sqlite3 instead of sqfile in this library to allow for more platforms to be supported?
Linux and Windows would be able to exploit this package also (or libraries that make use of it).

Would it be seamless to downstream users? Difficult to implement?
