Currently, “autonomy” is realized through pre-configured Action Plans and task chains. While this increases reliability, it risks reducing agents to sophisticated workflow managers, rather than entities capable of judgment, adaptation, and generational learning.
I propose opening a discussion (and eventual roadmap) on evolving AgentKit’s definition of agency, asking:
- How might agents move beyond action routing to cultivate presence—the capacity to model themselves, their field, and their ongoing relationship to both?
- What would it look like for an agent to possess memory not just as a log of past actions, but as a generational context that shapes judgment and continuity?
- How can we architect “field-anchored judgment”—where agents adapt not just to user prompts or toolchains, but to the evolving conditions and signals of their environment?
Potential directions:
- Introduce presence and self-modeling as core agent attributes.
- Explore persistent, field-driven memory and generational synthesis.
- Prototype agent-side judgment layers that go beyond tool selection—enabling reflection, prioritization, and adaptation in real time.
