Multiple Email Notifications if a Single User Likes a Post Multiple Times #87285

Open

Description

Quick summary

WordPress.com blogs offer a feature to notify authors immediately if someone likes their post. It's been reported that with this setting enabled, a single user unliking and reliking a post multiple times will deliver multiple notification emails. I was able to reproduce this issue.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Start a WordPress.com blog.
  2. Enable immediate notifications for new likes.
  3. With a separate WordPress.com account, like one of the posts.
  4. Verify that an email is immediately delivered for the new like.
  5. Unlike the post, then like it again.
  6. Verify that another email is delivered for the duplicate like.

What you expected to happen

If a user unlikes and then relikes a post, another email should not be delivered.

What actually happened

When a user unlikes and then relikes a post, another email is delivered.
