Seller Exp - Improve representation of fees associated with payments #62148

Open

Description

Feedback from Jacopo during "Back to Basics" testing of Seller Experience onboarding (paYJgx-1Wj-p2):

We are not communicating that there are fees involved. I’m not familiar with Woo, but all Payment Blocks definitely have fees, either from the service or from us. Stripe-related blocks have tiered fees depending on the plan, with the eCommerce plan waiving them completely.

Users can find the breakdown of those fees buried deep in the blocks’ support pages. Most likely, they will find out about them because they will receive less money than expected from their sales. This is not good. Businesses need to know their expenses in advance to fine-tune their prices.

We could add a footnote to the Plans screen linked from the “Collect payments” item where we explain that there are additional fees involved, linking to a clear breakdown table for both Stripe and PayPal payments.

If the Plans screen is too crowded already, we could at least mention it in the Store Features screen. E.g. “Requires a paid plan. Fees apply.” or something like that.

Currently, while we point out that both Payment Blocks and Woo require a paid WP.com plan, we do not make any mention of the fees involved once the user begins selling products through these mechanisms. How can we improve this experience to make that information clearer?
