Multiple themes won't allow comments in the homepage #5545

Open

Description

Quick summary

The twenty seventeen theme doesn't display the comments section on the home page, even if the "allow comments" check box is ticked.

This only seems to affect the home page as the rest of the pages will display the comments area as expected (if the checkbox is enabled). Other themes (twenty fifteen seem to allow that as well.)

Steps to reproduce

  1. Switch theme to twenty seventeen
  2. Enable "Allow comments" within the discussion tab on the sidebar on the homepage.
  3. Check the page and search for the comments area.

Repeating these steps with another page (which isn't the homepage) will display the comments section as expected.

What you expected to happen

The comments section should appear on the home page as well.

What actually happened

The comments section doesn't appear on the home page, just on the rest of the pages.
