Trio-ircproxy.py

- an proxy/bounce server for your IRC client. Copyright (c) 2024, master sire g.i. Kenggi J.P. phD. ret.

This is a work in progress, if you wish to help then write issues for all and any requests. The issues is working as a to-do list of features as well as a communication channel.

I am looking for a Canadian server, possibly my own laptop to host the download for Trio-ircproxy.py. This is because of the cryptography that that the application uses may not be allowed for use outside of the United States. However, my home country, Canada, has no such restrictions. Just make sure you download the application from a server in Canada unless, you live in the U.S. then you can download from anywhere.

Issues (requests) List : https://github.com/ashburry-trio/Ircproxy/issues

This application is not meant to be run by a user; instead I will rent a VPS to host the application on several dozen IP addresses and it will be networked with https://www.myproxyip.com/.

If you wish to run the application, maybe just to see if it is still working then follow the instructions below. If you are using Linux it is assumed you know how to run the app from these Windows instructions:

  • Install the latest version of Git

  • open cmd.exe by right clicking on the Windows Start Menu button (and choose run)

  • type in the input box type cmd.exe and press Enter

  • Type cd %userprofile% then mkdir Projects then mkdir Ircproxy then cd Projects\Ircproxy then git clone https://github.com/Ashburry-trio/Ircproxy.git

  • type install.bat python3.13

  • Then you just need to execute runproxy.bat on the command line (install.bat runs runproxy.bat)

  • If you are using Linux do not update your systems version of Python, instead install the latest version of Python alongside your system version via the one-line code shown below:

  • curl https://pyenv.run | bash &&
    export PATH="$HOME/.pyenv/bin:$PATH" &&
    eval "$(pyenv init --path)" &&
    eval "$(pyenv virtualenv-init -)" &&
    pyenv install $(pyenv install --list | grep -E "^\s3.[0-9]+.[0-9]+$" | tail -1) &&
    pyenv global $(pyenv install --list | grep -E "^\s
    3.[0-9]+.[0-9]+$" | tail -1)

  • If you get an error with the code above then ask chatgpt "How do I install the latest version of Python along side my Linux system's default Python installation"

If you are using Linux then you need to install manually; this is done with: Notice how the command below uses ~/Documents instead of just ~/Ircproxy/:

python -m venv ~/Documents/Ircproxy/trio-ircproxy/venv then look in ~/Documents/Ircproxy/trio-ircproxy/venv/bin for the activate script compatible with your Linux terminal:

Shell

Command to activate virtual environment

WINDOWS

-   cmd.exe C:\> .\trio-ircproxy\venv\Scripts\activate.bat

-   PowerShell PS C:\> .\trio-ircproxy\venv\Scripts\Activate.ps1

POSIX

bash/zsh

-   $ source ./trio-ircproxy/venv/bin/activate

fish

-   $ source ./trio-ircproxy/venv/bin/activate.fish

csh/tcsh

-   $ source ./trio-ircproxy/venv/bin/activate.csh

PowerShell

-   $ ./trio-ircproxy/venv/Scripts/Activate.ps1

You will need to activate the the venv everytime you run the trio-ircproxy.py app. After you have activated the venv type python ~Documents/Ircproxy/trio-ircproxy/trio-ircproxy.py to run the app. Don’t forget to install the requirements.txt with pip3 install -r ~Documents/Ircproxy/trio-ircproxy/requirements.txt (just once each upgrade) from within the virtualenv.

The web-server half of the project is available in another repo found at https://github.com/ashburry-trio/RoseMay_Website and runs with Flask on https://www.PythonAnywhere.com servers. It is being developed in real-time at https://ashburry.pythonanywhere.com or https://www.myproxyip.com page by page and has a long way to go. Once in awhile I update the repo with the web-site code which you can get working with minimal effort, even start your own web-site based on RoseMay; if you require a login I would recommend letting me code the login logic as it is tricky and difficult and just change the content on every page except the LICENSE which any license suitable for open source projects will do.
