The Space Weather module renders electric field vectors with adaptive sampling, gating, and unit normalization (mV/km). Settings persist via useEcoNaturalSettings.

Active settings / flags:

  • spaceWeather.pipelineEnabled – Adapter orchestrator (Phase 1) for unified vector sourcing
  • spaceWeather.enhancedSampling – Grid/bin sampling fairness prototype

Upcoming Tertiary Visualization Modes

A structured expansion will introduce additional layers (geomagnetic index, auroral oval, solar wind, magnetopause, magnetic field lines). Development is tracked in SPACE_WEATHER_TERTIARY_MODES.md.

Progress phases:

  • renderedCount – After any adaptive degradation
  • samplingStrategy – legacy-topN or grid-binning
  • unit – Always mV/km
  • degraded / degradationReason – Adaptive density reduction status
  • gatingReason – Why overlay not rendered (e.g. inactive-layer, inactive-mode, flag-disabled)
  • timingMs.load | sample | normalize – Phase timings (ms) when available

Gating prerequisites (electric fields must satisfy all):

  1. Provider mode: EcoNatural
  2. Sub-mode: spaceWeather
  3. activeLayer === 'electricFields'
  4. showElectricFields === true

If any fails, vectors array is empty and gatingReason is populated.

Planned enhancements:

  • Async adapter pipeline activation (pipelineEnabled)
  • Layer processor registry (geomagnetic index, solar wind, etc.)
  • Comparative sampling tests (legacy vs enhanced)
