feat(task): image paste and file attachment support in task composer #2722

Description

@i-trytoohard

Finding: AO-05 — Image paste and file attachment are unavailable

Severity: P1
Area: Task input and multimodal workflow
Source: UI/UX Audit (15 July 2026)

Observation

Users cannot paste an image or tag/attach an image file in the same way they can in other coding-agent tools. UI bugs, screenshots, diagrams, and visual references must be described manually or moved through another tool.

User impact

This adds friction exactly where an agent benefits most from visual context. Competing CLI workflows already support multimodal input.

Recommendation

Support:

  • Clipboard image paste
  • Drag-and-drop image files
  • File picker attachment
  • Inline preview before submission
  • Clear attachment removal and upload error states

The task composer should show whether the image was successfully attached and whether the selected agent can use visual input.

Acceptance criteria

  • Pasting an image creates a visible attachment chip or thumbnail.
  • Dragging an image into the composer works.
  • Failed uploads preserve the task text and explain the failure.
  • The agent receives a clear reference to the attached file.
  • The composer indicates whether the selected agent supports visual input.
