AdGuard causes a BSOD related to the Microsoft driver netio.sys
#5169
Comments
7.18 Encountered the same problem |
I have the same problem. |
I'm experiencing the same issue. I've had two crashes so far, both with the DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error. In my latest crash dump, I noticed the driver adgnetworkwfpdrv and found this GitHub page. |
I'm experiencing the same issue 2024.07.25 Update: now I have 7 crashes so far, one happened just now |
I'm having same issue I also got netio.sys bsod after installed the AdGuard , although my minidump says it's NLSvc.exe ( NetLimiter ) and another one is AVGSvc.exe ( I have AVG installed ) but my pc is completely stable before installed adguard . AdGuard Version : 7.18.1 (4778) Dump files |
I experienced this netio.sys BSOD once about a week ago (which is the first BSOD I've had in literally years) while watching a YouTube livestream in Chrome. I didn't see this topic until now, so me too. It only happened once though and haven't been able to cause it again. Using Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Defender. |
I have expericenced similar problems, netio.sys BSOD about two times and adgnetworkwfpdrv.sys BSOD one time so far. AdGuard Version : 7.18.1 I decided to uninstall the Adguard now to see if the BSOD occur again or not. |
After I disabled the WFA driver, everything returned to normal and there was no BSOD. |
Dear Sirs, |
@AyratSaubanov , as a temporarily solution you can enable TDI driver. As for solution time's estimate - we'll try to do our best and fix it asap, I guess with a couple of weeks |
Just wanted to hop in and say that this issue is present for me as well on 7.18.1 I've only started hitting this over the last week or so but I might have been lucky prior. Here are some minidumps for reference. |
Starting to see it happen a little more too now (twice within a few days), also on 7.18.1. When a fix lands in nightly, hopefully it also quickly lands in beta too, but it really needs it. |
Can confirm it is an issue caused by the WFP driver. |
We've published a new Nightly, so could you check it please. |
It looks fine now on a new nightly version - Adguard was used for a whole day without any crash. |
Here's another improvement, could you install this version please or just update through the app. |
Version "7.19.0 nightly 4" is working fine for a couple days now. No crash occured. |
I am experiencing the same BSOD problem(version 7.18.1). I first noticed it on my stationary PC and thought it was an issue with the PC itself. However, when I started working on my laptop, I observed the same crashes occurring while browsing the internet using Firefox. The only thing in common they have is the AdGuard. Pretty sure 7.17.* had no issue as I started to get the BSODs recently. |
@ScarletKuro , please update to the latest nightly or the beta version |
Nope, I just got a BSOD with references to netio.sys. |
I am on 7.19.0 nightly 5 and still getting BSOD with NETIO.sys. |
@trparky, @zengshengliu, please grab and send the logs (instruction here) to the devteam@adguard.com with the issue number in the letter's label |
AdGuard Version : 7.19 beta 2 No problems with Windows 11 Pro, 23H2 (Build 22631.4249). I didn't see this topic until now, and as temporary workarouund I followed the adbuker advice ( commented on Aug 6): |
I get BSODs on my two laptops, but my PC works just fine. This has been going on for a few years, more often on W11 than on W10. |
Confirm, with TDI driver no more BSOD. |
What's a TDI driver? |
= |
@Minpatsu , thanks for the dump, we'll dive to it. To be honest we have huge plan to rework our driver to avoid all the compatibility problems (or at least most part of them) with the third-party software. All the cases descrived above are related to antiviruses, but also we have smth weird related to opening twitch tabs. Nevertheless we'll try sort out these cases, but now we exhausted almost all obvious possibilities to fix. As @anonD7 mentioned above using TDI driver will solve the problem on the one hand and will definitely not bring you any inconvenience on the other hand |
I'm not using any antivirus software, except for the built-in Windows Defender on Windows 10. I've noticed that I only get the BSOD on certain websites, mainly on vk.com (videos). I hadn't experienced any BSOD for a month, thinking the problem was gone, but after opening the vk.com (which I don’t use often), I encountered a BSOD. Unfortunately, this time I don't have a BSOD dump, because I lacked the patience to wait, so my post may not be very helpful. |
Done. |
@adbuker , In order to avoid conflicts between AdGuard and Avira, since long time ago in Avira settings I have 2 exemptions. |
Fixed = |
AdGuard for Windows 7.19, Release date: October 24, 2024 |
yes, indeed, only two processes will be enough |
I'm very sorry, but as I suggested above please try the TDI driver |
Thank you. |
Thank you, dev team. I also had this problem, and I dug in Reddit but somebody had pointed it out to Adguard too but mostly Antivirus. I will update this version and finger cross, cheers. |
After the update still greeted with BSOD this same error .. :) today |
I had my first one today. I turned off the WFP network driver after it happened to prevent it from happening again. |
The WFP driver is useful for things in newer versions of Windows, e.g. the ability to filter Modern or Windows Store apps and things of that nature. Originally it was the only way to filter the original Microsoft Edge, but that changed when they adopted Chromium. WFP in general is known to be a bit... buggy and is well known to cause issues with apps using WFP drivers, especially when you're using multiple apps that each have their own WFP driver at the same time. That's pretty much where the incompatibilities with antivirus apps come into play, clashes with their WFP drivers. Same with other, older apps like uTorrent way back in the day years ago. For many users you likely won't notice any issues switching to the TDI driver though I'd consider it legacy at some point. Hopefully Microsoft doesn't decide to depreciate it at some point. |
When I found out that this problem was caused by AdGuard, I felt especially speechless, because over the past three months my computer has been crashing—sometimes getting a blue screen once every one or two days, sometimes once every three or four days. I've paid too high a price trying to fix the blue screen issue!!! |
Disable the Use WFP network driver option in AG's Settings > Network section and see if the BSODs go away. If not, you may have other issues. WFP (Windows Filtering Platform) drivers in general, especially if you use third-party antivirus applications, can have issues like this at times. As I said, Windows Filtering Platform is a bit buggy unfortunately and can affect any app using a WFP driver. |
I've had this issue for about 3-4 months now, with a crash happening sometimes once a month, but at worst once a week. TLDR: The issue still occurs on AdGuard version 7.19.0 (4853) running Windows 11 with the WFP driver enabled. |
Oct 24, 2024 = From TDI driver -> WFP driver enabled. |
Still crashing here. No response from devteam@adguard.com in the last 6 days, not even a confirm of logs received. |
I think they're still recovering from the outage thing a month ago so it could take a bit. Regardless, in the meantime disable the WFP driver option and see if that finally puts a stop to it. |
Just got hit with this BSOD on version 7.19.0 (4853). |
What outage? |
Team, one of our customers reported: Extra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9lOynM_Fhw resolution for blue screen. |
AdGuard for Windows 7.19.0 nightly (4868) I was just skipping through a YouTube video when it crashed. netio.sys I just repaired my Realtek GBE driver just in case. It is very random when it happens, but mostly when watching videos on any platform. |
