Manual Override

Hi there, your counter is great - and I’m awaiting pcb’s to have a first build. I’m trying to guess at what your manual override would consist of - and have taken a copy of your repository to see if I can make the changes (that I think make sense and that I would want to see in the context of having a windlass remote, without counter, at the anchor well). Would you mind taking a look at the issue I have opened there and give me some feedback? I’ve also started updating the .ino file to reflect the changes. Sorry if this isn’t how you are meant to do things - I’ve never used Github before! Luke

Hi AK (I’m afraid I don’t know your name - sorry!). Between myself and another UK based SignalK enthusiast we have taken your board and code and done some work on it. This includes fixing the pin issue on the board, changing the power supply so that it can be used by boats operating at 24v as well as 12v, updating the code to track chain length when an existing control is used (or its in free fall) as well as building in a feed of chain length to SignalK. We have also done things like increasing the track width (and moving the relays to shorten the track length) for the power to the windlass relay - as some pull quite a lot of current and we thought there would be a risk of the track burning out if the windlass was operated for some time. Given that the majority of the work is still yours would you like to pull the new version back in to your repository? It is currently sitting on my repository (LukeSavage1306) as when I started this a couple of weeks ago I had no previous experience with GitHub and no idea how one should do these things.

Hi, I have tried to run your code on a NODEMCU DEVKIT 0.9 esp8266. Will this work? im having troubles with libraries not found and not sure what libraries i need to get the program to function. Any help greatly appreciated. cheers.

I don’t know if the code would work. But it should in general work with any ESP8266 device. Change of used GPIO pins might be. necessary. And there are no additional libraries used.
But the PCB is for e D1 mini.

Hi. Thanks. It does work. Figuring out which library was missing was the tricky part, Arduinojson and an ESP library was installed right before the errors went away. Ive changed the output pins to avoid the output relays going on during programming. Only problem now is long term stability, which I've had with all my ESP8266 projects. Power supply and which pins to hold hi or lo via resistors is the work i need to do next. Great code:)

Hi there, I am not an expert on this stuff. In fact I know very little about it! I used a D1 Mini. I have no idea if the alternative you reference will work. I initially followed the instructions on the AK Homberger site and got that working - then amended the code to add in the extra features (SignalK etc). I assume it is falling over when you try to compile the programme. If you want to send me screen shots of what is failing I will have a look and see if I can guess at what is going wrong.
