Warning
FadBlock Origin is no longer maintained or operational and hasn't been for a long time. This repository is being archived simply to close the project properly and preserve what's here.
Thanks to everyone who used FadBlock, stuck around, opened issues, wrote about it, helped other users, or just sent a kind message when things got rough.
I know I left this sitting here for a long time. I should have closed it earlier.
It was hard and it taught me a lot. I made mistakes, changed my mind, broke things, fixed them and kept going for longer than I probably should have.
What started as a small experiment ended up reaching far more people than I ever imagined. For that, I'll always be grateful.
Thanks for being part of it.
A fast, lightweight YouTube Ads Blocker for Chrome, Opera, and Firefox.
FadBlock Origin was built around a simple idea: instead of blocking YouTube advertisements outright, detect them and seek through them.
The ads were still technically loaded, but the extension would automatically fast-forward through the ad content to its conclusion. The process was designed to happen very quickly, typically within 100 milliseconds.
With YouTube moving further toward server-side ad insertion and browsers tightening extension restrictions, the landscape for ad blockers became increasingly difficult.
FadBlock started as a small experiment and ended up reaching far more people than expected.
Keeping it working required a lot of time, especially as YouTube changed how ads were delivered and how ad blockers were detected. The project eventually moved to an open-core / closed-source model, with ExtensionPay used for the optional paid version and lifetime licensing.
That work is now over. The project is archived and there will be no further updates.
Older releases remain here for historical purposes, although they may no longer work reliably with current versions of YouTube or modern browsers.

FadBlock was designed to handle several types of YouTube advertising, including:
Category 1: Ads visible on the homepage.
Category 2: Ads overlaid atop the suggested video list.
Category 3: Ads displayed below the video description.
Category 4: Skippable video ads shown at the beginning, middle, or end of a video.
Category 5: Two consecutive video advertisements.
Category 6: Inescapable video advertisements.
FadBlock was designed around a different approach from traditional ad blockers, so it could behave differently when used alongside other extensions.
At the time, users often had to disable or configure other ad blockers when YouTube's own ad-block detection interfered with playback.
The project is no longer maintained, so current compatibility cannot be expected.
There was no analytics or remote error-reporting system built into the extension. The functionality was designed to run locally.
Chrome for Android does not support Chrome extensions directly. Some Chromium-based browsers do support extensions, although support varies by browser and version.
The instructions below are retained for historical purposes.
Go to the extensions manager page for Opera (opera://extensions) or Edge (edge://extensions), enable Developer mode, and choose Load Unpacked.
The Chromium version was available through the Chrome Web Store.
