Easier way to hover to view/collapse panels and a way to have it span a larger area by floating over other panels

There does not seem to be any keyboard shortcut for toggling to view the terminal. It'd help to have a shortcut (I know there's an icon at the bottom right, but it's quite small to click, so a keyboard shortcut would be faster). Also, on smaller screens, it'd help to be able to expand the terminal horizontally on top of other panels to be able to view output properly. Netbeans used to have a nice way of floating panels like that and also switching to a mode where you could hover at a collapsed panel and it'd expand to show the full panel, and hovering away from it automatically made it collapse back to the side. It'd be incredibly useful to have this convenience, instead of always having to click or use keyboard shortcuts.
