How do you color selected checkbox in a theme / theme override?

I think it might be bugged or im missing something here...
element.disabled works for the disabled checkbox, but i've tried all of the below and it didnt work for the enabled checkbox:

"element.selected": "#d40404",
"element.selection_background": "#d40404",
"border.selected": "#d40404"
"element.background": "#d40404",
