I have received some comments on finding some of the specific examples.

For example someone was looking for information on the date picker example and did not see "date picker" in the patterns section.

The person suggested a search function.

Message from Terrill Thompson

It would be great though if it could include a Search feature. A couple of use cases:

  • I'm pretty sure APG v 1.1 included a calendar widget as an example. I'm not sure if that was still present in v 1.2, or if it's still present in the new version. If I search the home page for "calendar" I get no results, but maybe it's out there somewhere as an example of a particular design pattern - I'm just not sure which one.

  • Website navigation menus have been problematic for years. The obvious choice among the design patterns shown on the home page is "menu or menubar", but use of that pattern for a nested list of website navigation list is generally discouraged. I know from experience that better choice is "Disclosure (Show/Hide)" and in fact if I look there I'll find two examples of navigation menus that use this design pattern. Most developers don't refer to their website navigation using that terminology though - they refer to it as a "menu". Having a prominent search feature would enable them to search for "navigation menu", in which case they would see that there are some alternatives to "menu or menubar".

<Rich_Noah> Matt_King: Potential solution 1. Search 2. Date Picker Pattern page 3. Including note on patterns page for any pattern that includes a date picker pattern example.
