I'm currently adding
Sync
instances forIndexedReaderWriterStateT
to cats-effect (see typelevel/cats-effect#577). Some of the tests there fail asIndexedReaderWriterStateT.flatMap
is not stack-safe even when used with a stack-safe monad.Based on previous work for
Kleisli
(see #2185), I madeflatMap
andflatMapF
stack-safe by introducingIndexedReaderWriterStateT.shift
which implements special behavior ifF[_]
'sFlatMap
instance is also anApplicative
.Furthermore, I applied the usage of
AndThen
which madeIndexedStateT.flatMap
stack-safe in #2187 tomap
as well, allowing for repeatedmap
calls without blowing the stack. The same method unfortunately cannot easily be applied toIndexedReaderWriterStateT
as we don't have aFunction1
there, somap
stays unsafe there.
