Re-implement print methods for layers

Presently there is no custom print method for stats, geoms, positions, and layers, so they use the default proto2 print method. This is in my opinion an improvement over the old print methods, but it could be better.

Only the print method for layer is important, and there used to be a fairly reasonable one.
