Why did svelte appear so late?

Svelte is very good, and I like it very much, but why did it appear so late (2019)?

In another timeline Svelte could have been invented by someone at Bigtech in 2015 instead of 2016 (8 years ago!) and the committee would have named it like AssignmentScript. We're in a tasteful timeline IMO
