Code Color Highlights

Is there a way other then choosing the the language, because the code highlighting is JUST awful..
Dark purple on a dork back ground is horrible and difficult to read ...
its gotten to the point that for some Language I just use the same one ... so that I can actually read the code ...
And I use my notebooks for code a lot ...
