Spring 3 introduced formatting support for JodaTime's LocalDate, LocalTime, DateTime and ReadableInstant.

Can we please also have support for Duration and Period, using the ISO standard formats, e.g. PT1H2M

one more question, can you support coverting JSON String to a type?
I know it's supported in @ResponseBody, but how about using @ModelAttribute to bind parameters?

This should be pretty straightforward to implement; please consider submitting a pull request with the necessary changes, per the contributor guidelines. There's still time for this to make it into 3.2 M1, which we'll release a couple weeks from now.

Finally added for 4.2.4, along with #18294 doing the same for JSR-310...
