strange alignement for index

Hi,
I am customizing a domain index pretty much following what is in the Python domain. I have noticed that using sub-items I get a strange entry alignment.

When all is collapsed the entries are too much centered

whereas if I expand a level it goes back to some more reasonable

Any ideas? I have tried also other html theme and the issue is the same.

Could you share me any examples? I don't know so much about the indices, so I can't reproduce this...
