I am currently playing with version 4.7.3. it works if the asset check out from a user, however, it the asset has been checkout to a location and check back in, it get "Whoops, looks like something went wrong." problem.
I believe because the user variable is not defined from what I can see
Capture
.

@gilesytheking

I have a similar issue, however it only seems to happen when checking in an asset that has been assigned to another asset or location. Checkout function works fine.

I have rolled back to 4.6.18 seems like this only happen to 4.7 above

snipe commented May 31, 2019

That doesn't really make sense for 4.7.3 though, as we're checking whether the user exists or not on that line....

 if (($user) && ($backto =='user')) {

@ZhisongZhang
Copy link

ZhisongZhang commented May 31, 2019

$user==null when the asset is checkout to location?

if (($user) || ($user=null) && ($backto =='user')) {

will this help?

@snipe
Copy link

snipe commented May 31, 2019

No, the $user variable wouldn't even be set if it's checked out to anything other than a user:

if ($asset->assignedType() == Asset::USER) {
     $user = $asset->assignedTo;
}

Plus the error is that the variable is undefined. A variable that is set but set to null is still defined.

@ZhisongZhang

It would be easier to have a look at what has been changed since 4.6.18. It works in that version.

@snipe

snipe commented May 31, 2019

So, compare it. v4.6.8...v4.7.3

There were neatly 300 files touched in that upgrade. The history on the AssetCheckin file is much shorter:

https://github.com/snipe/snipe-it/commits/master/app/Http/Controllers/AssetCheckinController.php

But the underlying framework changed, and so did the minimum required version of PHP, so....

@ZhisongZhang
Copy link

4.6.18 - if ($backto=='user') {
4.7.3 - if (($user) && ($backto =='user')) {
$user is not define when checked out to asset or location

you have not defined the $user until line 56 and it is inside the if condition. I would suggest you to declare $user in line 54?

@snipe

snipe commented May 31, 2019

Try changing that to :

if ((isset($user)) && ($backto =='user')) {

and see if that helps.

@ZhisongZhang

yup, it works like magic. thanks for your help.

That's a different error than the ones people were reporting earlier in the thread. My guess would be you have some old cached views or files, as the checkin methods were moved to AssetCheckinController.php several versions ago. You can try running the cache clearing commands listed here: https://snipe-it.readme.io/docs/common-issues#section-quick-tip-handy-commands

These commands should be run from your Snipe-IT project root, just like every other cli command we mention. They should not need to be run as root/sudo/admin. These commands clear out cached service files that help speed up modern PHP applications but can also very occasionally be out of date,...

* Trying to fix ajax asset validation

This I think gets us closer, but still not handling the validation on the asset properly.

When I do a print_r of the validation in the other items, its looking for an error bag that looks something like this:

```
Illuminate\Support\MessageBag Object
(
    [messages:protected] => Array
        (
            [name] => Array
                (
                    [0] => The name field is required.
                )
            [seats] => Array
                (
                    [0] => The seats field is required.
                )
            [category_id] => Array
                (
                    [0] => The category id field is required.
                )
        )
    [format:protected] => :message
)
```

Currently the Assets ajax returns:

```
[2019-05-24 06:52:06] develop.ERROR: array (
  'messages' =>
  array (
    'model_id' =>
    array (
      0 => 'The model id field is required.',
    ),
    'status_id' =>
    array (
      0 => 'The status id field is required.',
    ),
    'asset_tag' =>
    array (
      0 => 'The asset tag field is required.',
    ),
  ),
)
```

So not sure why it’s not working.
