[feature request] FreeBSD support #4306
Comments
I came here after searching whether Signal is available on FreeBSD, so consider this a +1 please. |
I have not tired it myself, but have you looked into FreeBSD's Linux Binary Compatibility: https://www.freebsd.org/doc/handbook/linuxemu.html ? |
I believe the Linux compatibility only works for RPMs, so it would not be a viable choice for running Signal on FreeBSD. It's sad that Signal chose Electron in the first place, seeing there are even smaller software projects that have even greater OS support than projects like Signal by simply not using Electron. I had hoped that Electron would have been just a stopgap solution to the removal of Chrome apps like we had before. However, using an insecure, hardly portable Electron base seems to be Signal's motto. It would be cool if there was a fund for better desktop support for Signal |
+1 for better desktop support |

This issue is not stale. There's just no continued talking here since that leads to issues getting closed as well. |
Seems as if there is some progress |
FreeBSD has electron support and things like Atom work. Could you add a port of Signal-Desktop? Thank you very much!
