Disappearing Messages Deleted Before Having Been Read

• Someone started a group conversation with a few members and disappearing messages timeout of 6 hours.
• My phone was locked.
• A few messages were sent by other people.
• I saw lockscreen notifications.
• I sent a few messages in the group from my lockscreen.
• I locked my phone.
• A few more messages were sent by other people over the next two hours.
• I saw more lockscreen notifications.
• I didn't subsequently opened this conversation on my phone.
• Three days later I opened the conversation on my desktop.
• I didn't see any messages in that conversation.
• I went back to my phone and checked - there were a whole bunch of unread (and non-disappeared) messages on my phone.

So Desktop either never got or (more likely) deleted these disappearing messages before they were read on phone or desktop.

I have screenshots that I'd rather not post publicly that demonstrate the issue.

@gasi Saw this again today with "dogs" group. It's probably happening a lot and I'm only noticing it rarely.

Can confirm, I had a few messages as notifications when I got on a plane, but when I landed in Dallas 17 hours later all of the messages were gone when I went to read them.
