DirectWrite Custom Layout Japanese text characters overlap

There appears to be an issue with the example in the folder WindowsDesktop\DirectWrite\CustomLayout. When selecting Japanese text in the menu it looks like the attached image. You can see multiple characters overlapping.

To reproduce:

• Start the indicated project
• Maximize the window
• Select Japanese text

The shape (Circle or Funnel) doesn't matter.
