I'm the author of an at the time state of the art retro computer pixel editor. You should extend your keyboard support as follows:

1. Cursor navigation
2. Set pixel with current color
3. Set pixel with color bound to key
4. Marking (Shift + Cursor)
5. Copy / Paste / Delete
6. Fill

Also, support full terminal size editing with hidden or overlaid interface.
