Since many audio players and apps (such as Apple Podcasts) don't play M4B files it would be great to have a setting to automatically change their file extension to M4A.
I'd imagine a good place for such a setting would be under Audio File Settings > Audiobook Fix-ups

I recommend finding a converter. Or even try just renaming the file and changing the file extension. m4a and m4b are similar enough that this might be a rare case where that actually might work.
RE Adding this option to Libation: maybe but unlikely.
My goal with Libation is to be the best at what I do: getting your books from audible without copy protection so that you can use them anywhere. I want to severely limit doing things that other apps already do much better, such as file type conversion.
tbh For this reason I didn't actually want to include the mp3 option because it seemed redundant, but it was overwhelmingly the top request so I conceded.
Renaming will definitely work, the formats are identical.
And wow, Apple not supporting m4b? They invented the distinction - iTunes
would only save bookmarks if you renamed the file from m4a to m4b. How
crazy is it that they don't even support it anymore.
It’s been a while since I have tried, but if I remember correctly, they do support it. It’s just a matter of which app it gets played in. I believe iPhone automatically plays certain file extensions in certain apps. Which is really annoying when you’d like to specify which app. Eg: an mp3 audiobook will get played in the Music app which has no resuming in the middle of long files and no speed control. m4b should go to the Books app. I’d think m4a would be Music. Again: it’s been a while.
