Thanks for your interest in Redis Cluster support! You're right - the current implementation supports only standalone Redis instances through the from_conn_string method, not Redis Cluster.

Current Status

The current implementation supports:

• Standalone Redis instances
• Connecting via URL or client instance
• Configuration through connection arguments

Planned Changes for Redis Cluster Support

We're planning to add Redis Cluster support in an upcoming release. The implementation will:

1. Add explicit support for Redis Cluster client connections
2. Ensure all Redis operations are cluster-compatible
3. Handle key distribution appropriately (using hash tags for related keys)
4. Update documentation with cluster-specific configuration examples

Workaround for Now

In the meantime, as a potential workaround, you can try (I haven't tried it, but here it goes):

1. Create a Redis Cluster client manually:

from redis.cluster import RedisCluster

# Create Redis Cluster client
redis_cluster = RedisCluster(
    startup_nodes=[{"host": "host1", "port": "7000"}, ...],
    decode_responses=True,
    # other cluster-specific options
)

# Pass it to the RedisSaver/RedisStore
saver = RedisSaver(redis_client=redis_cluster)

2. Note that this might work for basic operations but could have limitations since the current implementation may not be fully cluster-aware regarding key distribution.

Also adding my vote for this.

We have a custom checkpointer for Redis and Redis Cluster.

It is nice seeing official checkpointer from Redis (Inc.) but without Redis Cluster we can't really use this library exclusively for all Redis configurations.

We're looking to adopt this workflow on our Redis cluster as well. @abrookins are you guys going to be adding this functionality to the checkpointer soon? Would be tremendous value-add for my team.

@michaelyma12 Absolutely! We've been working on the upstream changes necessary for cluster support. Those are complete now, so we'll be able to improve support in this library in the next release.
