Dashboards showing "code" at beginning

hey all, i'm following the dashboard examples on the documentation to try and fully understand the way dashboards are implemented. when i clone the repo, install dependencies and run the project, i always end up with code blocks before the content? What could be the primary cause of this?

I have been testing dashboards inside of a quarto project to see how it plays, could it be that this code preview is being defined or enabled in the root _quarto.yml file?

I thought maybe it could be because echo is set to true. but it still occurs even with this set to false

Ok after much debugging, it turns out, if you place output:false it hides the code. If there is a more elegant solution, do feel free to update this!
