There ended up being too many backward-incompatible changes for us to handle cleanly right now, so we’ll need to rethink the approach and come up with a more sustainable solution.

Huge thanks to @esafak for putting in the time and effort — really appreciate the work you did on this, even if things didn’t quite line up this time. We’ve reverted the range back to before the effort started and cherry-picked the unrelated changes so that nothing else was lost in the process.

We’ll revisit this with a more robust plan once we’ve got the bandwidth to tackle it properly.
