Description:

I believe the option --process-dependency-links is widely used by users who develop libraries. I use it almost every day and often many times per day and it becomes really annoying to type that long, error-prone, sentence every time.

I know it's deprecated but there are many use cases (#4187) like developing private libraries without a pypi server. A short alternative for --process-dependency-links would be handy.

Although I agree a shorthand would be convenient it seems best to wait/work for the option to stabilise (there's still a deprecation warning) before expanding it. In the meanwhile users can install pip completions to mitigate typos (or use shell scripts/alias/functions).

I'm gonna say this is blocked by #4187. Until we reach a resolution for that, I don't think this shorthand is gonna happen.

With #5726 merged and --process-dependency-links really going away, this is now very unlikely to happen: I'm closing this.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
