When the pointer hovers over the map, it is a circle with the next avail letter in the alphabet (presumably? or forever an A?). The pointer is followed by text instructions "Click to measure at this location".

Map cursor will not have the dot for simplicity, just the cursor. The hover text is an enhancement #368
