Mapbox plot with custom style doesn't get provided api token

If I try to use a mapbox trace with a custom mapbox style in 1.49, the map doesn't load and I see the below error in the browser console:

Error: An API access token is required to use Mapbox GL

It looks like this mock works because the figure includes a "satelite-streets" style in addition to the custom style.
