Nice and informative post. Your "story time" with the discovery of mkdocs as an alternative to sphinx in particular regarding supporting markdown echoed mine.

Good post! About the Code formatters part, I'd like to use pre-commit to manage all the tools(flake8, black, isort, mypy and so on), which is pretty convenient. Would love to know more about your thoughts on formatting tool management~

So, I'm not a fan of the pre-commit tool. It feels like a black box to me, and it's dependency/env management is redundant with PDM (or any other project manager). So I don't have any best-practices for you regarding pre-commit.

But since the time I posted the article, I replaced flake8, isort and autoflake with Ruff. Ruff auto-fixes are really good. It now also formats code, so I could replace Black (but Black is still needed by mkdocstrings, so not yet replacing it).

I put mypy apart from the other linters.

So in the end, it's just Ruff, Mypy, and Black. Easy enough not to have to add pre-commit IMO 🙂
