Running parse-dashboard at Heroku?

Is there an example of running parse-dashboard at Heroku like the parse-server-example GitHub project?

I just set this up - it's very straight forward. I'm assuming you already have a Heroku account. Run the following:

$ mkdir my-parse-dashboard
$ cd my-parse-dashboard
$ git init
$ npm init
$ npm install --save parse-dashboard

For npm init just enter anything that makes sense. Now you'll need to create 2 files:

1. parse-dashboard-config.json - this should follow the pattern listed here: https://github.com/ParsePlatform/parse-dashboard
2. Procfile - The contents of this should be one line:

web: ./node_modules/.bin/parse-dashboard --config ./parse-dashboard-config.json --allowInsecureHTTP

Now you need to commit all this to git:

$ git add package.json Procfile parse-dashboard-config.json
$ git commit -m "My First Commit"

Now install the Heroku toolbelt if you haven't already: https://toolbelt.heroku.com/
Then run:

$ heroku login
$ heroku create
$ git push heroku master
$ heroku ps:scale web=1
$ heroku open

That should be it

Hmm, question, is ir procfile and what folder does this go into?

So I did this with cloning the git repo, which required a few adjustments to the above suggestions.

Create a folder you want to put the parse dashboard code in and assumes you already have a Heroku account and node.js >=4.3 installed.

Then follow the commands next:

git clone https://github.com/ParsePlatform/parse-dashboard.git

cd parse-dashboard

edit your .gitignore file and remove the following lines

bundles/
Parse-Dashboard/public/bundles/
Parse-Dashboard/parse-dashboard-config.json

Then cd into your Parse-Dashboard folder and edit your parse-dashboard-config.json file. See options available to you here.

For a basic config fill out the following:

Go back to the root folder where your parse-dashboard is and create a new file called Procfile

Add the following on one line.

web: bin/parse-dashboard --config Parse-Dashboard/parse-dashboard-config.json --allowInsecureHTTP

Next in the root of your parse-dashboard run the command npm install

This might take a while so hold tight.

After this is completed run the following commands.

git add *

git commit -m "My First Commit"

You can verify everything has been added or nothing is pending by running the following command

git status

This shouldn't have any files waiting to be committed or files that haven't been added yet.

Next we handle all the Heroku stuff.

heroku login

heroku create

Note: With heroku create you can also add a name after it which then creates the subdomain for you if not taken.

Example:

heroku create nameofmyapp-dahsboard

git push heroku master

heroku ps:scale web=1

heroku open

If everything went fine a browser will open and you should see a login and password box that you configured in the parse-dashboard-config.json file.

If not you have the option to run

heroku logs

Which might spit out some info that you could then debug.

Note this was all done mostly from memory, so hopefully everything works for you correctly.

@gateway as it's not intended to run for production to users, you could easily deploy to heroku in their free dyno
