However, that issue was closed by going to a PR that was never merged. It was supposed to provide a way of changing the default serializer.
Since then, it appears (looking at version 2.3.0) that the import of pickle only happens with the memcache and rediscache backends, so the CVE can be safely ignored unless memcache or rediscache is used.
Please let me know if I am mistaken. Ideally, it would be nice to get the CVE updated with more helpful information.
