Open Code Chicago is excited to join Hacktoberfest 2025 this October! 🚀

Last year, our community project brought together 17 developers, with 34 forks, 19 stars, and 268 commits. This year, we want to build on that success and go even bigger!

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced developer, this is the perfect chance to:

• Learn how to contribute to open source
• Collaborate on real projects
• Grow your skills with the community

Hi @Alexandrbig1, I am totally new to Open Source. I have learned the basics of C++ by solving DSA problems on LeetCode and gaining knowledge of frontend development (React). Over the last 10-20 days, I've been exploring open-source projects, but I don't even understand how to contribute. I am afraid of a large code base. But I am eager to start open source contributions as soon as possible.

Hi @krgaurav7 and welcome! We’re really glad you’re here. Don’t worry if you’re new to open source — everyone starts somewhere, and every contribution matters, big or small. Right now, we’re in the planning stage for Hacktoberfest 2025.

Very soon, we’ll open up the actual Hacktoberfest project repo with clear contribution guidelines and beginner-friendly issues. That will walk you through exactly how to get started step by step.
So no worries about large codebases — we’ll build this together, and you’ll learn as you go. Excited to have you on board!

Hi @Alexandrbig1 , I'm Shiv a second year college student and a first timer to Open Source. I have done MERN Stack and currently learning DSA. My roommate told me about Hacktoberfest being a great place to start Open Source contributions. I really hope I can be of some use for this project.

Please start by reading the README/docs, then check the task board for beginner-friendly tasks (look for labels like "good first issue" or "easy"). Pick a task and leave a comment there — I’ll assign it to you. If you’d like a recommendation, tell me whether you prefer frontend or backend and your availability. Happy to help as you get started!

I prepare tasks daily — please check the task board (Todo column) and pick one that matches your skills, then leave a comment on that task and I’ll assign it to you.

Also check the Figma project and feel free to propose a design or feature. If you tell me which area you prefer (UI, React logic, styling, accessibility), I can recommend a specific task.
