Actually, before PRs, it would be better to see some mockups.

Plus, list of items describing necessary changes or properties of the new look/functionality.

How about...

• an html sign in prompt so password managers can prefill the login
• ❓icons next to fields to mouse over to see a short explanation of how to use it
• dark mode
• code coloring themes (examples)
• mouse over listbox to see full git repos

w.r.t. coloring schemes, OpenGrok once shipped with multiple CSS sets however we got rid of them as they were a pain to maintain and the alternative ones were rarely used. Maybe there is a way how to make the coloring configurable without introducing new styles.

As for the sign-in prompt, I do not see how this could work without introducing an authentication layer. So far the webapp can be configured to perform authorization based on information in HTTP headers that is pre-filled from authentication done elsewhere.

As vladak said, OpenGrok comes without authentication by design. If you need it you need to configure it on higher level (tomcat or even apache or other server). OpenGrok provides a way how to authorize for projects aftewards if needed.

Oh I didn't know that about the authentication. How about

• a view where the repo selection is on the left and the code is on the right? This way we can make full use of our windows.
• infinite scrolling would be nice as an option so it doesn't have to be paginated
• option to show all results

I'll just leave a suggestion here to leave infinite scrolling out of the consideration.

• It's harder to permalink to some area of search results, i.e. you can't say "search for X, and the one I'm talking about is on the top of page 2",
• It's heavier on CPU usage when scrolling the page,
• It makes it impossible to see the footer of the page,
• Also if you'll really want to introduce infinite scrolling, please consider a button "display more" first.
