use is not very high, but it seems to make sense and is used by NSI

How do we go about implementing this kind of request? I think this makes sense and I could make the pull request, along with many other issues. Very interested in contributing. But do we need to vote or something before I go adding stuff?

Ideally there would be a sign from maintainer that it was reviewed and is considered as making
sense.

But just making PR similar to #944 also makes sense, just that there is a bit higher chance it will be rejected as the entire proposal made here will be rejected.
