Overview

This meta-issue tracks the effort to bring together the Discover and Log Explorer applications in OpenSearch Dashboards. The primary goal is to enable Log Explorer features in Discover and OpenSearch Dashboards as a whole, focusing on ease of use and unified functionality.

Objective

Enhance user experience by creating cohesion between Discover and Log Explorer, making the combined functionality more intuitive and efficient to use.

Timeline

  • Initial WIP items exposed behind a flag: 2.16
  • Main implementation: 2.17

Features and Tasks

2.16 (Completed)

  • PPL and SQL in Discover
  • Query Assist in Discover
  • Async Query support in Discover (SQL)
  • New language-specific query bars in Discover
  • DQL, SQL Autocomplete in Discover

2.17 (In Progress)

  • Simplify architecture (Much less buggy)
  • Improved Data selector
  • Async Query support in Discover (PPL)
  • PPL Autocomplete in Discover
  • Updated Query Bar
  • Bug fixes
