What is in scope for COBRApy?

A common question we get is which methods/algorithms are in scope to be included into cobrapy directly and which ones are better suited to be implemented in its own package.

Based on Developer and Community surveys in 2017-2018 the following image emerged. Here green areas are in scope for inclusion into cobrapy and orange regions may be included but require additional discussion. Other regions are probably better suited in its own package or contributions to other OpenCOBRA python packages.

It should be noted that stability is an important goal for cobrapy so we also value continuous maintenance of code that is contributed to cobrapy.

For code that is specific to metabolic reconstruction or gapfilling the DRIVEN package will also accept contributions.

Additionally, we will also highlight python packages and publications using cobrapy on our website if you ask us to.
