We were discussing it in our SIG meeting today. Will there ever be a point in this project where semantic conventions are not deleted, only added? Wanted to understand the long term data plan for semantic conventions.

That is the case for any stable part of the semantic conventions (like the HTTP semantic conventions for example are now).
In particular, once certain semantic conventions are stable, corresponding attributes must not break and, in particular, in a way that cannot be reflected through the schema mapping files.

  • we are working on stabilizing more semantic conventions

Yes, that was the intention, but now there's a formal proposal for it. You can follow it here: #740
