Welcome to EuroPython OTel sprints

Big picture

The Python OpenTelemetry project consists of two repositories:

• https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-python that contains the core packages: the api, the sdk, etc...
• https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-python-contrib for all the instrumentations, the distro and other accessory packages

As other CNCF projects it requires to sign a CLA, that and the technical information to setup are in each repository CONTRIBUTING.md page.

What can I do?

• If you are a newcomer to OpenTelemetry take a look at the documentation and see if something is wrong. Documentation for each instrumentation is available here
• If you are a user of OpenTelemetry and have specific issues with any instrumentation take a look at the issues in https://github.com/open-telemetry/opentelemetry-python-contrib. BTW if you care about a specific instrumentation we are looking for CODEOWNERS that can review patches for a specific instrumentation.
• If you are a maintainer of a library that lacks OpenTelemetry instrumentation we can work on adding it
• If you are an experienced python developer but don't have OpenTelemetry experience take a look at good-first-issue labeled issues in both repositories
• Do what you feel to do, it should be fun!

How we avoid to duplicate work?

Signal on the issue you are working on it by adding a comment on the issue. If you stop write it too to avoid blocking other interested people.
